Strongman Training For High School Football

I held a strongman training contest for a group of local high school football players. Most of the athletes were 8th-10th graders and all showed great heart.

I also noticed that when one of their teammates did something impressive, they would all cheer and clap, creating a great atmosphere.

The events I chose for specific reasons were:

  • Tire Flip – A must have at strongman contests.
  • Keg or Tire Toss – Dynamic strength and safe.
  • Farmers Walk – I kept it light, again safe and everyone could participate after a little coaching
  • Medley - a man maker

One of the athletes bites it on the medley….hard.  But he takes it in stride, bounces up, and finishes the strongman contest out with a bang!

Hey Joe great vid, that kid that fell really had some heart and finished strong. How heavy were the farmers walk handles?

    Great vids so far!!!

  2. Alex, thanks. I like that the athlete didnt even think about quitting.

The farmers walk handles are heavy, not sure how much. Somewhere between 40-50 lbs each perhaps.

    Joe,

That looked like an awesome contest. I’m sure the kids had a great time.

Looks like your athletes loved it! I need to incorporate more strongman into my own training and my athletes training.
