Resisted Kettlebell Core Exercise

August 12, 2010 by

During this core exercise, the resistance is set off to the side and varies in a chaotic fashion through out the range of motion.

Muscles Targeted:

  • Obliques
  • Abdominal
  • Posterior Chain
  • Shoulder (stability from the band, not lifting during the swing)

How To Perform Off Set KB Swings:

  • Fasten a band to any stable object.
  • Perform 8-12 swings each direction
  • Keep the KB traveling in a straight path no matter the varying resistance.

As I learned from Jim Smith, if you do not have a band, you can have a partner push the KB to the side at the top of the swing.  The lifter will have to brace and remain rigid.

this is great joe. i have my wrestlers perform these with the band between their feet for some added tension at the top, but stabilizing your core against the rotational pull of the band is equally important in wrestling. i’ll definitely be giving these a shot tomorrow morning during my first workout!
