Homemade Loading Pin and Hammer Grip Lifts

A parent of a Synergy Athlete offered to make us a loading pin out of an old bar end.  I purchases a Body Solid Rack, a bunch of clips and a straight bar at a yard sale for $15 last year.  I use the rack and clips all the time, but the bar is not very quality.  I expected that since it was a cheap one, and it bent quickly.  I took the bar ends off to make some homemade equipment.

The parent welded a nut inside the end, and then screwed in a serious eye bolt “max capacity 2200 lbs.”  I don’t think we will be pushing that limit, but it is a sold piece of equipment!

Here is a video of John and I lifting it with something we call Hammer Grip Pick Ups.  As I highlight in the Bull Strength Manual, it is important to pay attention to training economy.  Athletes and others need to train multiple body parts at once.  It would be too inefficient to train one small muscle group, so they have to be combined.

Benefits

  • Forearm Power
  • Isometric Bicep Strength – Keep a bent arm through the lift.
  • Hand and Grip Strength

It also requires some leg and core strength to perform this lift!
