In this weekend’s newsletter I explained to all the subscribers the great opportunities I had this past weekend! (If you haven’t signed up yet, the newsletter is FREE and comes with a FREE athlete training article, just sign up over to your right in the sidebar!)
For everyone who didn’t get the newsletter, I did get to travel down to NJ with Smitty. On Friday we went and met up with Jim’s friends, Mike Hanley and Juliet Deane of “The Training Studio.” (Check out the Training Studio webpage HERE . ) Mike and Juliet are form technicians and both compete in bodybuilding and powerlifting. I worked in on their Max Effort Upper Body day. At the end we had some extra time so did a couple “bodybuilding” exercises. The workout looked something like this:
- Bench Press – Worked up to a 1 RM
- 2 Sets of Chain Push-ups Superset with Neutral Grip Chin-ups.
- Standing Military Press 3 X 8
- Rolling Triceps Extension Superset with Straight Bar Curls
- “Running the rack” on Hammer Curls, 10 each weight.
- Lots of band Pushdowns!
Between sets I was able to pick up some tips on kettlebell flipping and pressing. Smitty landed a 106 lb (or within a few lbs of that, I can’t recall) kettlebell press. I spent much of the time trying to bottoms up press an 88, but couldn’t quite lock it out. Additionally, we were able to spend some time talking training techniques and strength training business advice. Lots of good information!
Unfortunately I left the camera in the car at Mike’s. Tomorrow I’ll post some pictures of the trip to Defranco’s!
