Evaluate This Training Video

I found a professional workout that I am mostly okay with.  This is a introduction clip for a Stephon Marbury training DVD.

Take a look at the short clip and post some things you liked or didn’t like.

What I liked:

  • Full body included in the core exercises.
  • Shoulder mobility and flexibility with the kettlebell work and the plate circles.
  • Stability exercises such as the dumbbell iso hold lunges.

What I didn’t like:

  • Lack of range on the military presses
  • Didn’t see any true primary exercises present (bench, squat, deadlift, etc)
  • I would call some of the kettlebell work a warm-up such as passing it between the legs, and not a supplemental or primary lift.  We used to do the same motion to warm-up for baseball.

I think the positives outweighed the negatives in this one.  For the most part, looks like some quality supplemental lifts to stay healthy and compete.

From a glance I would like to leave it like this:

    From my stand point:
To much equipment not everyone can afford it
Lots of movements, how do you measure progress
    more Squats and deadlifts
    Foam rolling?!?!

I like some of the lifts though and it looked better then the average plan

i agree, not enough basic tried and true lifts, but then again, how do we know if he’s not doing them or just weren’t in this video. Some people get too caught up into looking cool and different in their training. Different isn’t better, better is better. While this stuff can be effective and motivational, serious basic lifts should be at the forefront of any athletic program

I agree in the video there is a lack of coverage on the basic lifts. However, this is a highlight video and we’ve all seen squats and deadlifts, they don’t really need to be shown. This looks to show the various training exercises and the hard conditioning he’s being put through. I liked it, thought it was awesome.

the best training i’ve seen from an NBA player, better than the last 4 that we compared! anyways, of course the conventianal lifts arent shown there, who wants to see someone bench, squat and DL! this is the stuff that I wanna see and reminds me more like MMA training, love the intensity, and core work, one armed overhead lunges and rows!!!

  5. Ha, you guys are probably right. I just like to see the fundamentals! Although Im guilty of the same, just showing unique stuff.
