Chesterfield Rams Hitting Ball Pullups

JR Joyner of Triumph Athletics  has been a frequent poster on this site and has some athletes getting after weights!  He made some ball grip pull up handles after reading about them on this site.  This video shows how hard the exercise really is!

Check out some of his wrestlers attempting the pulls.  It requires some serious grip and forearm strength!

As a note, I would not replace regular pull ups with this variation unless you have great hand and forearm strength.  Quite possibly, grip will be the limiting factor, not upper back strength.  Therefore, if your grip fatigues first, then your back will not get as good of a workout. 

I like to perform these as the last set or two of a pulling exercise.  I will also note I first saw the ball grip from Jedd Johnson over at the Diesel Crew.  He used it to attach to a loading pin, like I did in this video - Training Day At Phelps.
