Cellar Dwellers – Enjoy Your Weekend!

I came across these videos last night, dropped everything I was working on and watched every single one.

They come from a cable access show in the 90′s and they presenters bring some hardcore training knowledge.

Here’s my favorite two:

Brick Lift

Old School Weight training – “People were getting strong long before gyms.”

I have been working on a post about old school strength – but I’ve been searching the family archives for a picture of my lumber jacking grandfather.  Hopefully I can find it again and finish that post!

Enjoy your weekend!

**UPDATE** I just talked to Steve Jeck, looked him up and had to let him know how cool his Cellar Dweller videos are!  He hooked me up with a few more old school videos and let me know there is a “BEST OF CELLAR DWELLERS” over on ironmind.  Here it is – Cellar Dweller DVD

PS.  What are you lifting this weekend?  Big old lower body day for me.  I’m already excited!

Double PS.  I’m hoping those tight sweat pants come back!  I can imagine that its like walking around in a full lower body squat suit all day!

Great Videos! The missing link… HARD WORK! I find it funny that people are always looking for “new” ways to “work out” that are usually just creative ways to make things easier ie. ab belts… Look no further than our past for the best ways to get bigger, faster, stronger, leaner and healthier.

This reminds me of a kid named Timmy back in High School who’s off season Football Strength program consisted of working with his father bailing hay… Dude used to run punish people and NEVER stepped foot in the weight room!

Lol! I thought my neibors thought I was crazy flipping tires, imagine how “bewildered” they would be if I was tossing cabers in the alley behind my house. Hummm…

  2. Very cool! Love the old stuff. Too many people think you have to have big machines and crap to get better. How wrong they are!

I do miss the old school. ;D
I can be pretty cheap and lazy about shopping so I tend to compensate for weights and machines. Next time I see a caber lying around, I’ll try tossing it. You can do the sledgehammer stuff with big branches that fell of trees if you’re out camping and feel like working out. After college, we were pretty poor so we used those 3-5 gallon bottles you can get from those filtered water places. Those things are great if you need heavy weights. They even have handles on them.

Funny about those tight pants. I’m waiting for short shorts to come back and bathing suite briefs. Hahahahaha, men had less shame back then. This baggy look has been around too long.

  4. haha rhea, you might have to keep waiting for the short shorts for awhile!

  5. Bill great point about the importance and effectiveness of simplicity!

  6. Matt , “working man muscles” as my dad used to call them, are incredibly effective!
