Bulgarian Training Bag Advanced Construction Video

Big time feedback on How To Build A Bulgarian Training Bag Part I – I appreciate all the emails and messages!  I’m glad I can help out your training!

The Bulgarian Bag is an awesome training tool and we have been killing some incredible conditioning complexes with them!

As a matter of fact, a lot of it has been video taped for a bonus to the upcoming Bull Strength Conditioning.  More on that later…

Well a regular Bulgarian Training bag runs between $200-300.  They are well made from leather with multipurpose handles on the top of the bag.

Unfortunately, I have not seen anyone come up with a solution for making the handles on a homemade bag…so I headed into the lab….I found a solution for around $6.

MORE IMPORTANTLY

I need to give some Thanksgiving shout outs.  I used to think of Thanksgiving as a “minor holiday,” but I have come to realize I was incredibly wrong.

There is something special about thanking someone and showing gratitude for their effort.

I have had a TON of people help me along, without any of them I would just be puttering along miserably through life.  I’ll keep this brief, and hopefully you can spend 1 minute of your day to thank someone in the comments!

  • My wife – she has been a trooper through the pregnancy with our first child on the way Dec. 31st.  I’m lucky to be married to such a strong gal!
  • My brothers – its been a wild ride, but they are always there!
  • My friends -  I know this is broad, but without friends I would be going nuts!
  • ==>YOU.  Might sound cheesey, but I NEED to thank you!  Just slightly over a year ago this site was lucky to receive 50 views a day…and most of them were me!  I can’t thank you enough for pushing us into the thousands and motivating me to share and learn all kinds of information!

WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?

- Joe

PS.  Thanks for coming out in big numbers on the Ultimate Guide to Bodyweight Training!  Part II will be posted early this upcoming week

    Joe,

That is a GREAT idea and solution for handles. I’m sure the Bulgarian Sandbag people will hate you! Thank you for sharing and helping many people move forward with their training goals and needs. We work hard at this and it is work but I personally am thankful that I have the abilities and knowledge to help people. There really are so many things to be thankful for: family, friends, supporters, etc…
Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving with their families and friends!!

I have also just started my site up in April and I hear ya on the slow process but I will keep plugging away with help from you and other strength coaches and mentors. Keep on keepin on brother. Happy Thanksgiving!

None of us would get very far without family and/or friends!

    Joe,
    Great video.
I made a BTB recently very much like you did and use it regularly.
I had a different idea for the handles but I believe yours is better and that’s the way I’m going to do it. I was just going to use pvc pipe for the handles and duct tape the handles to the bag.
By the way, I know Ivan Ivanov the inventor of the Bulgarian Training Bag and I’m very careful to not let on that I made one and didn’t buy one of his.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and the best to yours.
    Family is everything.

  6. Stephen,

Thanks! I thought about the duct tape as well, but I figured it would create too much of a slope to hold onto the bag, so I went with this method – no problems yet! I did have to tighten up the straps some after the pellets shifted, but no worries.

The regular bulgarian training bag like you mentioned is a high quality peice of equipment! Like I called it in the video – its like a rolls royce. Unfortunately I cant afford a rolls either!

    Enjoy your thanksgiving!

what about the baseball and grommets? (for video #2)

  8. I was wondering if anyone was paying attention! The grommet variation, I decided, was probably too much work for the average person looking for a quick fix. I cut a strip of one of my military duffel bags out (it had a hole in it anyways), doubled it up, put a piece of pvc in it, and put that over teh bag. I used the gromments to “lace” it up like a show on the inside of the bag.

The baseballs are for a handle variation. I put an eye bolt throught the ball and used a caribiner to clip it to the zip ties going around the bag for a different handle. That one works really well.

Sorry I didnt include them in the video, I was missing an eye bolt when I was making them, so I didnt get a chance to video it.

Wonderfully creative. It’s great to see trainers think out of the box.

Has the third video been made yet? I may have overlooked it. I’m eager to view the variety of exercises.

    Thanks!

  13. Chris,

The third one isnt up yet. I am trying to make it more comprehensive than I originally video’d. Should be up this month (dec). Thanks for the interest!

In one short video, I learned how to upgrade my homebrew BTB and have clean, fresh skin, ha ha! Are you getting paid to run commercials in the background?

  15. Ha, that was before I had an Ipod!
