Synergy Athletics – Athlete of the Week – Jake H.

Every week one of the athletes here steps up and impresses me! This week it was Jake H. He just started his 8th grade season of modified football playing running back and linebacker. He is one of those kids who wants to try every exercise in the gym with as much weight (or more) than he can actually do. Jake earned 4 gym records today, so I’m going to give him the recognition. The lifts below are all completed in the 13-14 yr old age bracket on our record board, the weights are adjusted accordingly.

Accomplishments this Week:
Record 1 – Bench press – 225 as an 8th grader! I wish I could have done that!
Record 2 – Bench press reps – 135 X 17 reps (as a drop off set after 225!)
Record 3 – Chin-ups – 5 reps (Note: These are with strict form, no nipping, from a dead hang, above the bar, no swinging. He came in with 1 rep mid summer).
Record 4 – Thick Grip Holds (13-14 yr olds use 50 lb DBs, although Jake is ready to compete with the next age group) 3 minutes and 8 seconds SMASHING his old record of 1 min and 32 seconds.

To submit a nomination for “Synergy Athletics – Athlete of the Week” email us at CoachHashey@synergy-athletics.com. Accomplishments should be sport or strength training related.

Jake wins this week, and I’m looking forward to seeing who is going to step up next!
